Brewery Gulch Inn in Mendocino – My Honest Review

12/15/2023 by Kristin Addis Leave a Comment

I recently found myself enveloped in the charm of the Brewery Gulch Inn, nestled along the breathtaking coastline of Mendocino, California. In the quiet splendor of this coastal haven, I discovered a retreat that felt like a well-kept secret, a whispered promise of warmth and indulgence.

The inn’s intimate size is a triumph in itself. A quaint refuge that doesn’t shout for attention but invites you to lean in, to savor the simple pleasures of a carefully curated experience. It’s a place where the number of rooms feels just right, fostering a sense of camaraderie among guests, yet ensuring the luxury of personal space.

The Cozy Rooms with Views

brewery gulch inn review

I’ve had the pleasure of being invited to stay at the Brewery Gulch Inn twice now. The first time, I went with a few girlfriends in February and we were in the family room, which has adjoining rooms. Though this one doesn’t have the coastal view most of the rooms have, it was spacious and cozy.

For my second visit this past November, we had the Raven room which has a gorgeous view of the bay and a private balcony to enjoy it from. It also had such a large bathtub that me, my husband, and our baby could all fit in it together.

Most rooms also have a sitting area and fireplace, and both times I’ve stayed, I’ve had a bottle of sparkling wine waiting to greet me. Although I don’t drink, it’s a thoughtful gesture that sets the tone for a stay centered on relaxation and indulgence.

Adding to the communal atmosphere, each room features a shared refrigerator. It’s a practical touch that encourages a sense of shared experience among guests. The dining area downstairs becomes a communal space, with a roaring fireplace, and a wall full of games and even toys for little ones.

It’s the little touches like this that make this feel like such a luxury stay. But beyond that, beyond the beautiful views, and the perfectly manicured garden, it’s really the food that impresses me every time.

The Delicious Food

Picture this: A morning that begins with the tantalizing aroma of Millionaire’s Bacon wafting through the air. Breakfast at Brewery Gulch Inn is not just a meal; it’s a celebration of flavors, a symphony of tastes that lingers on the palate. The attention to detail in each dish speaks volumes about the dedication of the kitchen, where culinary artistry meets the warmth of a home-cooked meal.

I’m talking blueberry-stuffed French toast, a decadent breakfast burrito, or even a quinoa and tofu bowl if that’s how you prefer to begin your morning. There’s coffee and cake available at any time of day, along with sparkling waters and fruit.

But the indulgence doesn’t end there. As the sun dips below the horizon, the inn invites you to its daily happy hour, a ritual I never missed. Local wines flow freely, paired with such a generous meal that it was often enough for me to consider it dinner. There’s a daily changing menu with a small side salad or starter, a main course, and even a dessert!

It’s these thoughtful touches that set the tone for the hospitality that defines this gem of an inn.

Beyond the culinary delights, Brewery Gulch Inn is distinguished by its unparalleled coastal location. Just a few minutes from the town of Mendocino in Northern California, it has a quaint and quiet, coastal setting that’s not so far afield that it would take 20 to 30 minutes to get to local restaurants and shops. For those interested in Russian Gulch State Park and the Glass Sand beach of Fort Bragg, it’s not far from either one.

It is also located within walking distance of the Mendocino overlook which I can vouch is a perfect place to watch the perfect California sunset unfold. I witnessed one of the most magical sunsets of my life there! Complete with waves crashing on the rocks, birds, flying all around, and more or less having the whole experience to ourselves.

As daylight fades, guests can retreat to their private balconies, where the rhythmic crashing of waves becomes a soothing soundtrack. The salt-kissed breeze carries whispers of the sea, creating an atmosphere of serenity that is both invigorating and calming. It’s a front-row seat to nature’s grandeur, a spectacle that unfolds daily as the sun sets over the horizon.

A place that’s perfect for families or couples, or even solo travelers, there’s a reason why I was happy to return to brewery Gulch Inn. The views, the food, and the hospitality are just wonderful, and judging by their glowing reviews, I’m not the only one who thinks so!
