A Stay at the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal: Luxury Meets the Wild Edge of Baja

12/05/2024 by Kristin Addis Leave a Comment

There’s something magnetic about Los Cabos—the way the desert collides with the sea, the way every sunset feels like a performance orchestrated just for you.

And the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is the perfect place to watch it all unfold from your own private, heated pool. With a mix of grandeur and intimacy, this resort is the kind of place that makes you whisper to yourself, How is this my life right now?

We stayed for three nights as a family in a terraza room and absolutely loved it. Here’s everything to know before booking your stay there.

And by the way, I paid for the stay, and this is an honest, unbiased review, though if you book through any of my links, I do get paid a small commission.

Welcome to the Edge of the World

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos review

First impressions matter, and the Waldorf Astoria nails it with an entrance that’s basically a scene from a James Bond movie. You drive through a private tunnel carved into the side of a mountain before emerging into a world of understated opulence. The resort is seamlessly built into the rock face, as if it simply grew there, each curve and arch designed to embrace the ocean views.

Oh, and those views? They’re not just from some exclusive corner of the resort—every single room has a front-row seat to the Pacific. Now, let’s be clear: not all ocean views are created equal. The Estrella, Vista, and Terraza rooms, along with the Oceanfront Retreats, deliver the kind of sweeping, pinch-me vistas that will ruin all future vacations. And did I mention every room has its own plunge pool? It’s impossible not to feel like royalty as you sip sundowners while watching the sun dip below the horizon.

Wildlife: The Surprise MVP

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos review

Who needs Netflix when you’ve got mobula rays leaping from the water, whales spouting in the distance, and sea lions playing like they’re auditioning for The Little Mermaid?

We spent hours on our balcony, in awe of this natural spectacle. Baja California is one of the richest areas for marine life in the world, and perched up on your vantage point with the binoculars in each room, you get to see it all unfold. It’s hard to overstate how magical it is to watch wildlife from the comfort of your own plunge pool.

Pools, Spa, and the Little Ones

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos review

If lounging is your Olympic sport, you’ll find your gold medal moment at one of the resort’s pools. There’s an adults-only pool for those seeking serenity, a family-friendly pool for all ages, and a shallow pool perfect for tiny swimmers.

The kids’ club is on the smaller side but still managed to delight our little one. Meanwhile, the spa—oh, the spa—is a temple of relaxation inspired by the phases of the moon. The saltwater pool alone is worth booking a treatment, but the massages? Life-changing.

The Food: A Mixed Bag

I’m a die-hard fan of authentic Mexican cuisine—the kind that comes wrapped in a tortilla from a street cart. While the resort offers elevated seafood and Mexican-inspired dishes, I found the food to be… fine. Not bad, but not life-changing, especially compared to other luxury resorts like Six Senses Yao Noi or Capella Ubud, where the cuisine was unforgettable.

That said, the resort’s location makes it easy to venture into town for a culinary adventure. A quick Uber ride or even on foot, and you’re diving into local eats that pack the flavor punch I was craving.

Location, Location, Location

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos review

Unlike many luxury resorts that feel like gilded cages, the Waldorf Astoria Pedregal’s location is great for those who do want to venture away from resort grounds. It’s close to the marina, and you’re just a stone’s throw from downtown Cabo, making it easy to explore beyond the resort.

Whether you’re in the mood for tacos, tequila, or a stroll along the marina, you’re perfectly positioned to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Do keep in mind that the beach here isn’t swimmable, though. There are some resorts in the area, like the Four Seasons and Montage that do have swimmable beaches. I visited 5 resorts during my time in Cabo, and reviewed them all here.

What Sets the Waldorf Astoria Apart

Here’s a quick rundown of the hotel’s accolades and unique features:

  • Forbes Five-Star Rating: A well-deserved recognition for its luxury and service.
  • Private Tunnel Entrance: No other resort in Cabo can boast this cinematic arrival experience.
  • Plunge Pools in Every Room: Because luxury is better with your own pool.
  • Moon-Phase-Inspired Spa: A celestial touch to your relaxation.
  • Award-Winning Service: The staff makes you feel like family.
  • Location: Easy access to downtown Cabo without compromising privacy and tranquility.

Each room has access to 24/7 concierge service as well to ensure that nothing is ever more than a quick text away.

The Bottom Line

Would I stay here again? In a heartbeat. The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is a place where luxury meets Baja’s wild heart, creating a vacation that feels both indulgent and soulful. Sure, the food didn’t wow me, but when you’re eating the daily delivered guacamole in your plunge pool and watching whales frolic in the waves, that feels like a minor quibble. Remember these are the complimentary perks booking through us can get you:

  • Complimentary room upgrade, if available (at check-in).
  • $100 USD or USD equivalent property credit per stay (conversion rate is determined by the hotel).
  • Daily complimentary breakfast for 2 guests per day.
  • Priority for early check-in and late check-out, if available.

If you’re looking for a slice of paradise with a side of unforgettable wildlife, this is the spot. Just bring your stretchy pants—for the tacos in town, of course.
